It actually can cross the line and come off as being superficial and insincere, after a while.

Satoru was imprisoned in a type of supernatural prison before coming here. I don't know if his wish is even remotely related to that incident, since he doesn't seem particularly concerned about it more than just inconvenienced, but still.
