And how did you meet her? At school? [That would be the cliche way for it to have gone down and he still like the idea of Vlad being a romcom character.]
Yes, actually. In college, through a... [ clears his throat ] well, a mutual friend of ours at the time. We were all sort of outcasts, you see, passionate as we were about the paranormal sciences. And Maddie, oh, how she could solve theorems and lay down wiring was downright poetic. Her theory on the nature of gravity in parallel symbiotic worlds was truly inspired.
Yes. Ghosts and the afterlife, and the nature of such things. We...well, Maddie and I made some great breakthroughs in the field during those college days.
Oh, a bit of everything, really. Although I do focus more on defense systems and...how should I put it...anthropology, perhaps? I quite like to study the physical properties of the Ghost Zone, as well as the form of society they have there.
Think of it as...a parallel world. When people die, sometimes they form ghosts, and those ghosts can only be formed in the ecto-energy omnipresent in the Ghost Zone. But the worlds are intrinsically linked. There are ways to cross from one to the other. But these natural portals are extremely rare and temporary, so it's uncommon for ghosts--or humans--to cross from one to the other unless an artificial portal is made.
Oh, I'd say it was more the other way around. It began as a personal curiosity that I focused on in my free time. But since the establishment of more artificial portals, ghosts have become more common in the human world, and it's created a thriving market for ghost defense technology. It's become a decent portion of my business.

I suppose 'forcefulness' is one way to describe what saw my rise to success, yes.

LITERALLY IT DIDN'T EVEN TRACK AS WRONG TO ME
[Fukuda is not good at this.]

Mmm, she's...beautiful. And she has an exceptionally brilliant mind to boot, whip smart and extremely skilled.

They're nothing but opportunistic hacks who rely on a gimmick. They couldn't catch a ghost if it was right in front of their faces.
